CONSTRUCTED SECTION FAQ SEO – MONITORING AND IP CAMEERS

🌐 Complete Guide: Digital IP Cameras and Network Monitoring FAQ

Are you planning to build a modern security system? Learn all about digital IP cameras. We answer questions about PoE power supply, network configuration, IP addresses, megapixel quality and cooperation with NVR recorders.

QUESTION 1 1. What is an IP camera and what is different from an old analog camera? +
IP camera (network) is a fully independent computer device with its own processor, memory and IP address on the network. Unlike the old analog cameras that transmitted raw video signals with coaxial cable, digital IP camera It processes, compresses and encodes the image itself and then sends it as data packets through the LAN/Internet network. Thanks to this, IP camera image quality is unrivalled, and the system offers huge possibilities for configuration, remote management and image analytics.
QUESTION 2 2. How does PoE power work in IP network cameras? +
Technology PoE (Power over Ethernet) allows simultaneous transmission of the digital video signal and powering the device with one, the same network cable (UTP strand). Choose IP monitoring PoE, eliminate the need to pull separate cables with current to each camera and mount power supplies on the facade. The current and data flow directly from the PoE switch or network recorder, which dramatically simplifies installation and increases the safety of the entire installation.
QUESTION 3 3. What resolution in IP cameras is optimal: 2MP, 4MP or 8MP (4K)? +
The resolution of 2MP (Full HD) slowly goes to the lame and only works in small rooms. The current standard for protecting the property is IP 4MP camera (Super HD), which offers an ideal compromise between a very clear detail and a reasonable file weight on the disk. If you want to identify license plates from a long distance or precise digital zoom, choose IP cameras 8MP 4Kwhich record an image of incredible sharpness and huge number of details.
QUESTION 4 4. What is the PoE switch and when is it needed in the IP camera system? +
Switch PoE (network switch) is an Internet signal distributor that has a built-in power module for terminal equipment. It is necessary if your NVR has no built-in PoE ports or if you mount IP cameras at a distance from the recorder (e.g. in a separate building or garage). Instead of pulling 4 separate cables home, you connect 4 IP cameras to the PoE switch located in the garage, and from there you lead only one network cable to the main router or recorder.
QUESTION 5 5. Can an IP camera operate independently without an NVR recorder? +
Yes! This is one of the greatest advantages of digital technology. Autonomous IP Camera can work completely alone. Simply insert a MicroSD memory card into it, connect it to the power supply and home network (via cable or Wi-Fi). With a dedicated app on your smartphone, you can remotely manage the camera, view the videos stored on the card, and receive traffic notifications without having to buy a stationary recorder.
QUESTION 6 6. What is ONVIF protocol in IP cameras and why do I have to pay attention to it? +
ONVIF Protocol is a global standard of open communication between devices from different manufacturers of security systems. If you buy the Dahua IP camera and want to connect it to the Hikvision recorder (or vice versa), both devices must support ONVIF standard. This ensures that digital video stream, motion detection and basic control functions are properly handled, allowing any mixing of brands in one LAN.
QUESTION 7 7. How do I connect a wired IP PoE camera to the Internet and home network? +
The procedure is extremely simple:
  1. You earn RJ45 tips on a power cable (UTP strand).
  2. You plug one end of the cable into the port in external IP camera, and the other end to the port in the recorder with PoE support or PoE switch connected to the router.
  3. You run the manufacturer's free software (e.g. SADPTool for Hikvision or ConfigTool for Dahua) on your computer to search your device online and give it a new one IP address according to your home router pool.
QUESTION 8 8. What does WDR function in IP network camera specifications mean? +
WDR abbreviation (Wide Dynamic Range) means Wide Dynamics Range. This is a key hardware function of the IP camera processor, which digitally corrects the image in difficult lighting conditions – e.g. when the lens is aimed directly at a highly sunny window, a glazed front door or when there are deep shadows in the yard. The IP camera with real hardware WDR (e.g. 120dB) automatically dims the x-rayed places and lightens the shadows, making the entire frame readable and the faces of the people are not darkened.
QUESTION 9 9. Do I need a fixed IP address from the supplier to view the live IP camera from my phone? +
No! No! Nowadays you no longer have to pay the operator for a fixed public IP address or set up a complex port redirection on the router. All Modern IP cameras Hikvision, Dahua or Reolink have a built-in free cloud function (P2P / Peer-to-Peer technology). This means that the camera connects to the manufacturer's server automatically. You only install the app on your phone and scan the QR code from the device's enclosure – from now on you have a safe, immediate preview from IP camera over the internet from anywhere in the world.
QUESTION 10 10. How is the fixed-focal lens different from the floating-focal lens (Motozoom) in IP cameras? +
The IP camera with a fixed lens (e.g. 2.8mm) has a rigidly defined wide angle of view (approx. 100°) and does not allow optical zooming of the image – it is ideal for general monitoring of the yard at close range. In turn IP camera with Motozoom (variant fire with motor) allows remote, smooth adjustment of the angle of view and approximation (e.g. from 2.8 to 12mm) directly from the app on the phone. This allows an optical approximation of a distant point (e.g. an entrance gate 30 metres away) without losing even one pixel on the image quality.
QUESTION 11 11. What range of UTP network cable allows for stable operation of the IP PoE camera? +
According to network standards, the maximum length of one segment of UTP computer sprocket from switch to IP PoE cameras are exactly 100 metres. When this distance is exceeded, voltage drops and data packets may occur, resulting in image disconnection. If you need to mount the IP camera further (e.g. 200 meters from home), select the PoE switch with the function Extend / Long Distance. It reduces port capacity to 10Mbps (which is completely sufficient for the stream from the camera), but allows to safely transmit power and image at a distance of up to 250 meters on one cable.
QUESTION 12 12. What does the abbreviation IVS and AI perimetric protection in IP cameras mean? +
IVS (Intelligent Video Surveillance) is an advanced analytical function built into digital IP camera software. Instead of mere detection, intelligent IP camera with circuit protection (perimeter) allows drawing virtual lines on the image (e.g. along the fence) or closed zones. With AI artificial intelligence algorithms, the system will immediately detect the moment when a man or a car crosses this line in an unauthorised direction, and will send a precise alarm on your phone, completely ignoring leaves, dogs, cats or birds.
QUESTION 13 13. What compression codec in IP cameras saves the most disk space? +
The most efficient and currently required standard is an intelligent codec H.265+ (or H.265 Pro+). IP cameras generate a very large data stream due to high megapixel resolution. Enable H.265+ compression to reduce the weight of video files stored on the hard drive of the recorder by up to 70-80% compared to the H.264 compression used. Most importantly, this is done without the slightest loss of focus and image quality, so you save money on buying smaller HDDs.
QUESTION 14 14. What is bitrate in the IP camera and how does it affect the quality of the recording and the LAN network? +
Bitrate (data stream capacity) is the amount of information transmitted by the IP camera in one second, expressed in kilobits or megabits per second (e.g. 4096 kbps / 4 Mbps). The higher the resolution and fluidity (cages per second - FPS), the higher the bitrate is needed so that the image in motion does not blur and does not create so-called "pixelosis". Appropriate bitrate setting in NVR recorder It is crucial that IP cameras transmit a beautiful stable image and at the same time do not overload home router capacity.
QUESTION 15 15. Do digital IP cameras have protection against cyber attacks and hackers? +
Professional IP network cameras renowned brands have advanced cybersecurity mechanisms. They support HTTPS data encryption, IP filtering, multilevel user authentication and cloud video encryption. To yours digital IP monitoring was 100% safe, absolutely remember to change the default password of the administrator ("admin") to a strong, own password during the first launch and regularly update firmware devices.
QUESTION 16 16. Tube or dome IP camera – which enclosure to choose outside? +
The choice depends on the installation site. Tube IP Camera (Bullet) is clearly visible, which in itself acts as a deterrent to the thief – it is ideal on the corners of buildings, tall posts and for monitoring long straight sections of the fence. In turn dome IP camera (Dome or Turret) is more discreet, aesthetic and harder to destroy or twist by vandals (has a mechanical resistance class IK10). We recommend it for installation above the entrance door, under low roofs, underlays and indoors.
QUESTION 17 17. What is an IP camera with LPR / ANPR technology and what is it for? +
LPR/ANPR technology is an advanced automatic function Registration plate recognition and reading vehicles by artificial intelligence algorithms sewn in an IP camera. Specialist LPR IP camera It is fitted at entrances to properties, parking lots or housing estates. The device not only saves the car numbers into the database, but it can also control the relay itself – e.g. automatically send a signal to open the drive of the entry gate or the barrier, if the registration number of the approaching car is on the so-called "white list" of the owner.
QUESTION 18 18. How to choose the right NVR network recorder for your IP cameras? +
Choose NVR network recorder, you must pay attention to three parameters:
  • Number of channels: Specify how many IP cameras you connect to the device (recorders 4, 8, 16 or 32 channels). Always worth buying a model with a slight spare.
  • Bandwith: Maximum data bandwidth (e.g. 80 Mbps) that the recorder can process from IP cameras simultaneously.
  • Supported resolution: Make sure the recorder handles high digital resolutions (e.g. recording up to 8MP/4K) if you plan to purchase such powerful cameras.
QUESTION 19 19. What happens to the PoE IP camera system in the event of no 230V at home? +
In the event of a power failure in the urban network, traditional cameras connected to ordinary sockets will immediately expire. A Great Advantage IP PoE monitoring systems is the ease of central emergency protection. Since all cameras draw electricity with one power cable from the PoE switch or recorder, it is enough to connect this one main central device to the professional UPS emergency power supply. At the moment of power outage, UPS will sustain the work of the recorder and all IP cameras connected to it for decades or even several hours.

🧰 FAQ – Knowledge Center & Frequently Asked Questions

🎥 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) & Surveillance

What home surveillance system should I choose?
The choice of home surveillance depends on the finishing stage of the building. For unfinished buildings (raw state) or before renovation, digital IP surveillance powered via twisted-pair cable (PoE) is optimal. It ensures maximum stability, highest image quality (4K Ultra HD), and resistance to interference. In finished buildings where running cables is not possible, wireless Wi-Fi systems with local power supply work great.
IP or analog home surveillance – which is better?
We strongly recommend IP surveillance. It offers higher resolution, intelligent AI image analytics (human/vehicle recognition), and easy expansion via PoE switches. Analog surveillance (HD-CVI/AHD/TVI) is a good and economical solution mainly when you are upgrading an old system and want to reuse existing coaxial cables.
How to design outdoor surveillance for a single-family home?
Effective outdoor surveillance should cover all entry points (doors, garage gate, wicket) and the property perimeter. Selecting cameras with the correct viewing angle (2.8mm lenses for a wide frame) and IP66/IP67 weather-resistant housings is crucial. It is important to mount cameras at a height that prevents easy tampering (approx. 3-4 meters).
Construction site cameras – wireless Wi-Fi or GSM 4G/LTE?
A permanent Wi-Fi network is rarely available on a construction site, which is why external 4G/LTE GSM SIM card cameras are the best solution. They allow full remote viewing in locations lacking network infrastructure. It is worth choosing battery-powered models or those supported by a solar panel, making construction site monitoring 100% autonomous.
What surveillance works best for a company or large warehouse?
Scalable IP systems based on professional network video recorders (NVR) supporting from 16 up to 128 cameras are dedicated to companies and warehouses. Crucial elements here are motorized zoom (motozoom) cameras for face and license plate identification (LPR), integration with access control systems, and advanced disk arrays ensuring secure data recording for the legally required period.
What cameras should be chosen for a livestock barn or farm?
The specifics of livestock facilities (high ammonia concentration, moisture, dust) require cameras with increased chemical and mechanical resistance (min. IP67 ingress protection, IK10 vandalism resistance). PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras with strong optical zoom are recommended for barns, allowing farmers to remotely monitor animals (e.g., during calving) from a phone without entering the building.
How does intelligent AI image analytics work in Dahua and Hikvision systems?
Modern IP cameras from Hikvision (AcuSense technology) and Dahua (WizSense/WizMind technology) have built-in deep-learning artificial intelligence algorithms. They filter out false alarms by precisely distinguishing human and vehicle silhouettes from moving leaves, rain, or small animals. They also enable setting up virtual tripwires and restricted zones whose violation immediately triggers a push notification.
Why is it worth buying a ready-made 4-camera PoE surveillance kit?
A 4-camera PoE kit is the ideal price-to-capabilities balance for a standard single-family home. PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology allows transmitting video signal and power over a single cable (UTP twisted pair). By purchasing a ready kit at MikaShop.pl, you receive perfectly matched components: cameras, NVR recorder, industrial-class HDD drive, and a set of accessories ensuring a quick startup.
How to achieve good nighttime surveillance (24/7 color image)?
To enjoy a clear, colorful image in total darkness, choose cameras equipped with advanced high-sensitivity sensors and bright lenses (F1.0). Technologies like Hikvision ColorVu or Dahua Full-Color do not use traditional black-and-white infrared (IR), but instead illuminate the scene with visible, warm LED light, allowing full identification of clothing colors or vehicles at night.
When are outdoor PTZ Wi-Fi cameras useful?
Outdoor PTZ cameras with a Wi-Fi module are an excellent solution for patrolling large, open spaces (e.g., yards, gardens, parking lots) without installing multiple fixed-position cameras. Equipped with an auto-tracking function, they follow the detected object, recording its every step.

🔒 Intrusion and Hold-up Alarm Systems (SSWiN)

What home alarm system should I choose?
A good alarm system should be based on certified devices (Grade 2 or Grade 3). The core of the system is the alarm control panel, keypad, external siren, and properly distributed detectors. Brand selection depends on expectations: for advanced systems with building automation elements, we recommend the Polish brand Satel (Integra/Perfecta series), while for those looking for modern design and simple wireless operation – the Ajax system.
Wireless home alarm – what to buy to make it secure?
When choosing a wireless alarm, avoid cheap, unbranded devices operating on open frequencies. Professional wireless systems (e.g., Satel Abax 2 or Ajax) use encrypted, two-way radio transmission across multiple bands simultaneously. In the event of a signal jamming attempt, the system immediately changes frequency and alerts the owner of sabotage.
Is a DIY alarm kit a good solution?
Yes, especially in the case of wireless systems. Manufacturers like Ajax design their devices using Smart-Placement – detectors are added to the control panel using QR codes in a mobile app, and installation is limited to screwing brackets in place. For simple wired systems (e.g., Satel Perfecta), installation can also be done independently with the help of our technical advisors.
What features does a modern home alarm system have?
Modern alarm systems go far beyond burglary detection. They protect the home from water damage (flood detectors), detect early stages of fire (smoke and heat detectors), and carbon monoxide leaks. They can also shut off the main water valve in case of a failure and control lighting, roller shutters, and heating.
How does a phone-controlled alarm work?
A control panel equipped with an IP or IP/GSM module connects to the manufacturer's dedicated, secure cloud. Via a free smartphone app (Android/iOS), the user can arm or disarm the system (the whole house or selected zones) from anywhere in the world, view event history, and receive instant push notifications about alarms.
How do pet-immune motion detectors (PET function) work?
Pet-immune detectors ignore the presence of dogs or cats (usually up to 15-20 kg). This is achieved through a specially designed Fresnel lens that creates a "dead zone" near the floor, or advanced digital signal processing that analyzes the size and thermal characteristics of the moving object. Dual technology detectors (PIR+MW) are recommended for homes with pets.
Why is an alarm with GSM notification and a SIM card a necessity?
GSM notification is a crucial backup channel for internet communication (Wi-Fi/LAN). In the event of a home router failure or intentional power cutoff by a burglar, the alarm control panel automatically switches to the GSM cellular network. This enables uninterrupted SMS alerts, voice calls (VOICE), and effective signal transmission to a security agency.

⚡ Gate Automation and Drives

What sliding gate drive to choose for up to 500kg?
When choosing a drive, always keep a 30-50% safety margin relative to the gate weight so that the actuator easily handles resistance in winter conditions (snow, frost). For a sliding gate weighing up to 500kg, proven, legendary drives based on metal gears are the ideal choice, characterized by reliability and easy movement parameter programming.
What swing gate drive to choose – narrow or wide posts?
This is a key installation parameter. For narrow posts (metal or clinker with a hinge mounting depth of up to 10-15 cm), standard linear screw actuators are used. For very wide posts (e.g., made of split-face concrete blocks where the distance from the hinge to the edge of the post is over 20 cm), a regular actuator will jam against the edge. In this case, articulated arm drives are necessary.
Nice, Came or BFT gate automation kit – what to choose?
All three brands represent the highest European quality and guarantee full availability of spare parts for years. **Came** is famous for incredibly durable mechanical designs and service simplicity. **Nice** offers modern design, advanced control panels, and a very popular line of home drives. **BFT** stands out with advanced 24V power technology featuring intelligent torque management (D-Track system).
Universal gate remote control – how does programming work?
Universal self-copying remotes work smoothly with fixed codes (usually 433.92 MHz). However, branded drives use secure rolling codes. To program a new remote, you usually need to trigger the pairing procedure directly on the radio receiver inside the drive control panel or use a previously programmed remote via radio (near the gate), following the procedure described in the manufacturer's manual.
Gate photocells – connection and operating principle?
Photocells consist of a transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) creating an invisible infrared barrier across the driveway opening. The receiver is connected to the control panel using a power cable and an NC (Normally Closed) line to the safety input (PHOTO/STOP). Breaking the infrared beam during gate closing results in the immediate stop of the wings and their safe reversal, preventing impact on a vehicle or person.
What cable should be laid in the ground for a gate drive?
To supply main power to the drive control panel (230V), use a three-core, dedicated underground cable in a thick black PVC sheath resistant to moisture and UV, such as **YKY 3x1.5 mm²** or **YKY 3x2.5 mm²** (for greater distances from the switchboard). For connecting accessories (photocells, warning lamp, wall buttons), gel-filled outdoor underground twisted-pair cable **U/UTP cat. 5E** or low-voltage signal cable **YTDY** is ideal.
